Each armor includes the official description, protection/resistance values, my personal description and opinion, as well as a list of places where you can find and/or buy that particular armor - this is list is not complete in the sense that doesn't list all the places where you may obtain that particular armor. You can click the images to see the full in-game description as well as what the armor actually looks like when worn.

Please note that the Average protection values are based on all eight different types protection - so for a Leather Jacket, for example, its average protection is 8.75% (and not 10%) since it doesn't provide any protection against radiation. The list is sorted by the Average protection values which means that the armor furthest down the list may not be your favorite - or the best for any given situation - but simply has the highest average.

Each armor that has nightvision also includes a comparison image showing what the nightvision in that armor looks like.
Leather Jacket (Special)Back to top
Leather Jacket (Special) (Click to view large version)
Leather Jacket (Special)
An ordinary thick jacket, one of the many. It slightly increases bullet and splinter protection. It does not protect from anomalies and other affects.

Personal Notes
It seems that this is an "unfinished" armor that was left in the game. It has a unique look when you see it on the ground, but in your inventory it's just called "Leather Jacket", it looks like one as well, but the protection values are quite different, and the armor itself isn't visible when you actually wear it; it looks like it's supposed to be a military vest or similar. Click here to see what the armor looks like outside your inventory.
Locations
This armor can be found inside a wooden crate on the attic of the largest building in the Army Outpost in Cordon. Refer to this page for instructions on how to get the armor.

Personal Notes
You'll be wearing this type of armor when you start a new game. It's better than nothing for sure, but basically you'll want to replace it with something better as soon as possible since it only provides minimal protection.
Locations
You'll be able to buy this type of armor from Sidorovich and you are likely to find it in various early stage stashes. The Leather Jacket does not have nightvision.

Personal Notes
Although the basic properties of this armor are identical to a regular Leather Jacket, it does come with some nice, additional bonuses: +600% health regeneration rate, -200% bleeding, and a +55 endurance recovery. Many thanks to both Marek and Koki for the details on this armor.
Locations
You can find this armor inside a stash located to the far west in Cordon, just north of the railroad.

Personal Notes
Has a nice bullet cap for an armor that's easy to come by; it is however also part of the optional mission Find the perfected suit given by Nimble.
Locations
This armor can be found in the tunnel at the end of the road going through the car park (the place where you initially rescue Nimble as part of the mission Get information from the scout given by Sidorovich. Does not have nightvision.
Merc SuitBack to top
Merc Suit (Click to view large version)
Merc Suit
Stalker suit from the Merc faction. Its design is based on the suit used by the special forces of the Western armies. Due to a special treatment of the fabric, the armor has a strengthened stability during the physical movement of its plates. Its protective properties are slightly better then those of the PSZ-7 military bulletproof suits.

A much improved alternative to Leather and Bandit Jackets because of the overall increased protection (including radiation). A good armor for the early stages of the game. The Merc suit does not have nightvision.
Locations
You can find the Merc Suit in the rookie village in Cordon (go here to learn how). You can also buy from various vendors including Sidorovich.

Personal Notes
Although the default properties of this armor are identical to the Berill-5M it does come with an additional -200% bleeding making it somewhat superior (thanks to Marek and Koki for confirming the exact number). The armor is the target of an optional mission given to you by Lukash, the leader of the Freedom faction.
Locations
This armor can be found on a body near the entrance to X16 in Yantar.
Wind of Freedom SuitBack to top
Wind of Freedom Suit (Click to view large version)
Wind of Freedom Suit
Light stalker suit produced by the gunsmiths of the Freedom faction. It consists of a light military bulletproof vest with reinforced kevlar plates. It can protect from weak weapons. The fabric of the suit is treated with a special mixture which increases anomaly activity resistance.

Finally, you can also find the armor inside a caravan just before the anomaly filled tunnel in Wild Territory; the caravan has a blue box stash outside of it.
Stalker SuitBack to top
Stalker Suit (Click to view large version)
Stalker Suit
Stalker suit manufactured by "folk craftsmen". It is an effective combination of a light military bulletproof vest and of a rubberized fabric suit. It is reinforced with inserted kevlar plates and provides good protection from weak gunfire. All in all it is highly ineffecient for carrying out deep raids and serious operations in the knots of the Zone.

Personal Notes
Although the Ghost Suit has the same protection values as a regular Stalker Suit it comes with a healing boost providing a +600% regeneration rate (once again thanks to Koki for digging up the exact number). If you are wearing a regular Stalker Suit (or worse) when you find this, this may be the armor to replace that. This armor is part of an optional mission given by Sakharov who will reward you with a SSP-99M Suit for bringing him the Ghost Suit.
Locations
You will only encounter this armor in one place, namely in X16 when you locate the body of Ghost.

Tourist Suit
The former owner of this thing was a real tourist and, it seems, often went on very difficult, on the verge of human endurance, hiking trips. He knew how to distribute correctly the weight that he carried, and which things to give preference to. The coat pockets and the educated choice of the backpack allow its owner to carry a heavy weight.

Monolith Suit (Click to view large version)
Monolith Suit
Stalker suit from the Monolith faction. The producer is unknown. Its protective properties are slightly worse then those of the PSZ-9a military bulletproof vest. Its structure is similar to the suit popular with neutral stalkers which combines a bulletproof vest and a radiation protection suit. It provides good protection from gunfire. Its level of anomaly protection is low due to the absence of an air filtering system.

PSZ-9d Duty Armor (Click to view large version)
PSZ-9d Duty Armor
Produced by one of Kiev's defence research institutes and commissioned by the Duty faction. It is as simple and reliable as the standard PSZ-9 mode, but due to the new materials, it provides good protection from various harmful impacts, including firearm damage. The vest still needs some work because it has no breathing protection system.

SSP-99 Ecologist
A SSP-99 chemical protection suit specially designed for the Zone conditions. It is used by scientific expeditions and the eco-stalkers who cooperate with them. It has an integrated air-filtering and air-conditioning system. It is heat and electricity resistant, provides good protection from radiation and biological anomalies. It is resistans to chemically aggressive environments. It is not designed for combat, so it provides neither bullet, nor splinter protection.

Personal Notes
Although this suit has a high average mainly due to the high Electric shock, Burn, Radiation, and Chemical Burn protection, it suffers from decent protection against Rupture and bullets. May prove useful when exploring dangerous areas that are clear of enemies, but otherwise I personally don't think it's an ideal armor to use.
Locations
This armor can be bought from Professor Sakharov.
ExoskeletonBack to top

Exoskeleton
A military exoskeleton prototype. It never went into serial production, because of extreme cost and some design flaws. It is however produced in small batches in small illegal factories outside of Ukraine. This is a third generation exoskeleton. The design defects which used to decrease its mobility were eliminated and the armor was reinforced. It provides excellent bullet and splinter protection. It has a low level of anomaly protection.

Personal Notes
Unless you do the Destroy the Duty company for Lukash at the Freedom faction HQ you're probably only going to see this armor a couple of times once you reach the Sarcophagus at Chernobyl. If this is the case, and since you don't have to worry about alot of dangers in Chernobyl (such as radiation, anomalies, etc.) it is again one that you should pick up. It restricts your movement in the sense that you cannot sprint while wearing it, but due to it's extremely high bullet, Impact and Explosion protection values you're likely not going to need to sprint at all (possibly with one exception - against foes using an RPG, but still...). This is almost a must have especially if you're going after the "ultimate" ending of the game which means you'll be facing alot more enemies than just the ones inside the Sarcophagus.

If you complete the missions that are initiated by Destroy the Duty company for Lukash then you will be able to buy the Exoskeleton armor from the trader, Skinflint, at the Army Warehouses.

The Exoskeleton armor allows you to carry more weight - it increases your maximum carrying capacity from 60 to 80 kilos; however the Exoskeleton takes up 15 kilos in itself.

Locations
If you do the Destroy the Duty company mission for Lukash then you will be able to buy it from their trader, Skinflint. After the 1.0004 patch I've been able to buy this armor from the Barkeep as well - however it wasn't initially available; I believe you have to either do a number of optional missions for him or progress into the main plot before the armor is available. You will also find this armor inside of Chernobyl (in the Sarcophagus) during the final end-game.

Personal Notes
The armor has all the same properties as the regular Exoskeleton except that it comes with the better (blue) type of nightvision. Also, the PNB-4UZ allows you to carry up to 80 kilos of equipment.
Locations
This armor, that belonged to Fang, can be found in a stash in Pripyat. You can get the information about the stash from the corpses of the lone stalkers in Yantar; the stash also includes a Mama's Beads artifact.

PSZ-9Md Universal Protection
A wonderful protective suit for the Zone. Stalkers appreciate it because it combines excellent anomaly-proof and bullet-proof qualities. It includes the PSZ-9d suit, closed cycle breathing system and an integrated system of anomalous field suppression. It provides quality bullet and splinter protection.

SEVA SuitBack to top
SEVA Suit (Click to view large version)
SEVA Suit
This suit was produced by one of Kiev's defence research institutes and represents an excellent alternative to stalker hand-made suits. It is an excellent combination of an bulletproof vest, a closed cycle breathing system and an integrated system of anomalous field suppression. Due to the perfect choice of the materials, it is a good choice. The only disadvantage is its price.

I love this suit. You can buy it and it's great. Good protection all around and you can buy it. Did I mention you can buy it? Right!
Locations
You can buy this armor from Sakharov once you've done a couple of optional missions for him. You will also be able to find the SEVA suit inside a secret stash in the Wild Territory; the stash is revealed to you when you return the family rifle to Hunter at the Bar. Refer to this page for the precise location of the stash.

Military Armored Suit
This Skat-9M bulletproof military suit is designed for assault operations in areas of anomalous activity. It includes a PSZ-12p heavy military bulletproof suit, an integrated compensation suit and a Sphere-12M helmet. It provides perfect protection from bullets and splinters and it doesn't decrease the soldier's mobility. It has a balanced system of anomaly protection.

As far as I know you will only encounter this armor in two places - first you can find it in the secret stash in Pripyat that the Doctor will tell you about. The armor was added to the stash in the 1.0001 patch. The second one can be found inside the Sarcophagus. The armor offers great protection and has one of the highest bullet protection values in the game... in short, this is an armor you want to pick up and use - perhaps until you find the Exoskeleton inside the Sarcophagus or buy it from Skinflint.

As part of the 1.0004 patch, this armor can also be bought from the Barkeep - however, I believe it's only available after you've done a number of optional missions for him or possibly progressed far enough into the main plot of the game.

Personal Notes
A great overall armor since it has excellent protection against radiation and other types of damage, but also because it has a good protection against bullets and Rupture (unlike the SSP-99 Ecologist suit). Furthermore, this armor can be bought at the mobile lab so if you wear it down you can always replace it... it is expensive though but that shouldn't pose a problem to the experienced stalker. Once you get near to the end of the game, though, you're likely to find other armors that will provide better protection against the dangers you'll face.
Locations
This armor will be given to you as a reward for an optional mission, Bring the unique bodysuit, provided by Sakharov.
